TWO THOUSAND AND TEN

NWBC 2010   Letter from our COMMODORE

Dear New Wave Boat Club,
It is hard to believe how quickly our boating season has come to an end.  The cold weather has taken hold, and it’s time for us to plan for our next boating season.  This past season has been a lot of fun.  All winter I’ll remember the fun we had at the NCYC, especially when we climbed to the top of the creepy tower in the club house, being at Algonac tailgating in their shed and playing left, right, center with Kit Kats, hanging out in the water, simply enjoying friends who love boating, and dreaming of the other memories that I have made this past summer.

Our first meeting for the upcoming season is this Sunday, October 3rd at Belle Maer Harbor.  It will be held in the shed at the end of Joss row.  We will start our meeting at 1:00 with a fall tailgate party.  Please bring a dish to pass and a chair to sit on.  John and I will bring sloppy joes.  After we enjoy some great food, we will commence with our meeting which will highlight several things.  We will take nominations for the 2011 board, take an overview look at this past year and what’s to come next year, start collecting dues of $75.00 for next year, discuss and collect money for the Commodore’s Ball in December, and anything else that needs to be discussed at our first meeting.  Feel free to bring prospective club members and any ideas, comments, or thoughts that you may have.

I know that this is a busy time for cleaning and getting our boats ready to be taken out of the water, but please try to make the time to attend our October meeting.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday at 1:00.

NWBC 2010
   Letter from our VICE-COMMODORE

The NWBC has done it again, another great cruising season.   Although we are small it was great to see so much involvement from the membership.  I think if we compared our percentage of members involved in cruises we would, once again, beat most of the clubs in the ABYA.  We will have our first meeting of the season on October 3rd  1:00pm at Belle Maer and a frost bite cruise October 6-8th.  Please check out the web site www.newwaveboatclub.com for details and send pics and info to mpepin@liquiforce.com  so she can post them.

In conversations around the dock this weekend, there was interest in  the NWBC attending the ABYA Christmas Charity Ball on December 4th.  This could be “our” Commodores ball also. (we could still have our own in January if we like)  This is one of the main annual fund raisers for the ABYA. See the attached flyer. (BELOW FILE).   It is a formal “upper scale” event.  Lots of food, fun, top shelf bar and a great band. (Classic rock and top 40 cover, check them out on the web)  Tickets are $62.50 ($16.50 is tax deductable) and all we have to do is show up, it’s all done for us.   Please let me know if you are interested as soon as you can so I can get a count to the ABYA.  We can get as many tickets as we like.   We’ll try and get this finalized at the October meeting as the ticket sales close on October 31st.

Dinghy Run - Saturday July 17 - Detail Info

Good Morning NWBC:  This Saturday, 7/17, is the 2010 Dinghy Run.  It will start at 1:00pm and everyone should meet at our slip in MacRay
Dinner will be handled a little different this year.  We will be eating on the water - very similar to the way we've done our Poor Man's raft off over the past couple of years.  It looks like the weather will cooperate, so why not enjoy the day on the water.   We're planning on grilling hot dogs, chips, maybe a veggie tray, dessert.  Plan on eating shortly after the actual dinghy run ends - so it will be an early dinner.

Suggested items to bring:  Drinks for the dinghy run as well as for dinner, towels, cameras, sunscreen, sunglasses, plastic bags to keep things dry.  I would also like to recommend (not required) $5-$10 to be used during the dinghy run.

We're looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday.  Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

Cardboard Boat Race

On Saturday, July 3rd, this crazy event returns to Belle Maer. The 2nd Annual Cardboard Regatta is primarily for kids and teens under 17; it's an authentic "boat race" and will take place at 1 p.m. on the Canal between Calypso (C-Row) and Elco (E-Row).
Boats are to be made of cardboard, paper, tape & paint only. A limited supply of donated cardboard & duct tape will be available on a first come, first served basis. Engineering and construction are open to all, but only children up to age 17 can be "captains" of the "boats."
There will be two age groups that will compete in the Cardboard Regatta, and each will race separately. Prizes will be awarded to age groups as follows:
• Ages 12 and under - 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies
• Ages 13-17 - 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies
• T-Shirts for all participants

Plans call for the marina barges to be used as the launch site of the boats. A manned dingy will be placed every four slips on both sides of the regatta route for safety. Start and finish line flag banners will be strung across the row. Pontoon boats will be at the end of the race row to pick up the children and boats. Life jackets will be mandatory for each participant.
All boats must be registered and checked in by noon on July 3rd. Prior registration is requested by June 25th. To register, please call the Belle Maer Marina office at (586) 465-4534, see Liz Wyss at J213 or call at (248) 561-6786, or Denice Pysh at J207 or call at (586) 899-1178.
Check-in on the day of the race is between 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, and
boats will be inspected and on display from 12:00-1:00 p.m. The regatta will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.

Awards will be given out at the starting line after the completion of both races.
Boats will be inspected prior to the race to make sure only cardboard and duct tape are used in construction. Oars are optional, but double sided oars will not be permitted. All captains must be inside boat and use paddles only. No swim fins for help will be allowed.

Looks like there is at least 5-6 boats that may be going  due to the nice weather.   You may want to make reservations at  www.midnrreservations.com  .  Not required but it may get busy at the last minute due to the nice weather.  Although we didn’t do a formal sign-up sheet, in conversations at the meeting on Sunday, it looks like most boats are trying to leave Friday bet 4-5:30?  Let’s keep en ear to channel 72 to see if we can hook up for the cruise.  If you are already out of the water drive up on Saturday for a bit.  We’re going to deep fry a turkey and have all the fixins, about 5:00pm.   Please confirm if you are coming so we can look for you.
